ACI Media Press Release Archives (2005)
| GENEVA, Switzerland – OCTOBER 11, 2005 – .aero, the top level domain of the aviation industry, today announced the launch of an on-line directory dedicated to the air transport community. | |
The directory is being introduced in response to a growing need to provide the community with a complete listing of companies and associations related to the industry, ranging from spare parts vendors to cargo logistics companies. Listing in the directory is open to all registered .aero domain name holders at no charge. “The intent behind the directory is to create a comprehensive database of information on aviation product and services,” said Marie Zitkova, .aero Business Manager. “It provides a useful alternative to searching for aviation sites using general purpose search engines, and complements and strengthens the existing network of .aero users.” The service is available free of charge, and offers extensive search capabilities over a number of categories and subdivisions. Users may run targeted searches by category or activity, resulting in faster and more focused results. As holding a .aero domain name requires that the registrant be "verified" as a company or association affiliated with the industry, end users can be confident that the search results returned by the directory will be credible and trustworthy. About .aero SITA SC acts as the sponsor of the .aero top level domain under a sponsorship agreement with Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). SITA’s obligation is to manage and develop the TLD on behalf and in the interest of the aviation community on a not-for-profit basis. Further information can be had at www.information.aero | |
