Spotlight on Airport Capacity Development in Emerging Markets - 20/06/2006

Singapore -The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation and ACI today officially announced the first major 5-day international airport event for Asia - Airport Development 2006. The Centre’s Executive Chairman, Peter Harbison, states “The objective of this new conference is to bring together global aviation stakeholders who are active in airport and ANS development. The event will focus on investment strategies for the rapidly emerging Asia Pacific, Middle East and Eastern European markets.”

“A great lineup of leaders specialised in the aviation sector will share experiences in the critical areas of finance, investment, regulation, privatisation, retail strategies, and infrastructure requirements for airports,” he said.

Airport Development 2006 will be held at the prestigious Raffles City Convention Centre in Singapore, from 29 August to 2 September 2006. It is organised by CAPA with key partners, including Airports Council International (ACI) and IJK and Associates, supported by Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO).

Airport capacity is a major concern in today’s steadily growing aviation market. ACI members committed a record USD36 billion on capital expenditure in 2005, following USD31 billion in 2004. Looking to the immediate future, the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation estimates that approximately USD170 billion in airport expenditure has been announced (globally), mostly falling within next five years. The Centre also estimates the global airport privatisation pipeline (currently around 40-50 airports) is valued at up to USD40 billion, which will keep credit quality under pressure.

The confirmed speaker list includes leading participants in the global airport sector:
