ACI World Chair Max Moore-Wilton, in the opening session of the conference, pointed to three pressing issues that the industry must address: security and the threat of terrorist acts, the counterproductive patchwork of government taxation schemes, and environmental challenges to the industry's license to grow. At the General Assembly, which marks the 20 year milestone of the global association, delegates unanimously approved a series of proposals and resolutions that call for heightened action in the areas of safety, security, environment, operational efficiency, regulatory framework flexibility, economic regulation and business viability.
Bermuda, 2 November 2010 – Director General ACI Angela Gittens in her address to the world annual assembly of airports, has called on ACI members to rally behind several new initiatives, making the association’s 20th anniversary year a meaningful milestone in the life of the organization. Bermuda, 2 November 2010 – At the ACI World Annual General Assembly today, airport representatives voted unanimously to launch a new safety advancement initiative that will ensure that airports contribute proactively to the demands of a safe and secure air transport system.
Geneva, 6 December 2010 – Passenger demand grew markedly in October 2010, with ACI member airports reporting a solid 7.7 percent increase, as compared to October 2009. International passenger traffic grew by a robust 9.9 percent while domestic traffic rose by 6.1 percent. For the first ten months of 2010, world passenger traffic increased by 6.4 percent, with international traffic growing by 7.6 percent and domestic traffic rising by 5.4 percent, as compared to the same period in 2009.
