Capacity Concerns Move Airports to Call for Airport Collaborative Decision Making - 08/11/2011

MONTREAL, 8 November 2011 – At the 21st Annual General Assembly for Airports Council International in Morocco, the world’s airports unanimously supported a resolution aimed at maximizing capacity and avoiding delays. Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) is a proven tool that can assist airports who are already capacity constrained, particularly by improving the overall efficiency of aircraft turn-round and the pre-departure sequencing process.
“As we know, capital capacity enhancements at airports can sometimes take years to build. ACDM is an effective tool that can be used now in already constrained airport environments to enhance the efficiency of the airport. With the passage of this resolution, we will seek a joint project with CANSO to promote the introduction of ACDM that will support the data interchange between airports and airlines,” said ACI Director General Angela Gittens.

ACDM will support the performance of the airport by integrating the entire aviation system, from landside and airside of the terminals, to aircraft gates and airfield management and runway and airspace utilization.

“Engagement with our sister organisations in international aviation is critical to improving the air transportation system,” said Gittens, “and working with CANSO on ACDM is a key priority for ACI so that airport partners can work together in a more proactive and transparent fashion to optimise use of available airport infrastructure and resources.”
