ACI commends ICAO on global agreement on CO2 standard for aircraft - Feb 08, 2016

Montreal, 8 February 2016 – Governments, industry and environmental groups meeting at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have today finalized the design of the first global certification standard for CO2 emissions from new aircraft. The new environmental measure was unanimously recommended by the 170 international experts on ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), paving the way for its ultimate adoption by the UN agency’s 36-State Governing Council.

ACI’s Airport Excellence in Safety programme celebrates five years of helping airports enhance operational safety - Jan 18, 2016

Montreal, 18 January 2016 – Airports Council International (ACI) is celebrating five years of the Airport Excellence (APEX) in Safety programme with the first review of 2016. The APEX in Safety team, along with a group of volunteer Safety Assessors from Safety Partner airports, arrived in Tunis, Tunisia earlier today to begin a review of Tunis-Carthage International Airport which will run to 22 January.

Accumulated passenger traffic grows by over 6% for eleven months; 1.3% decline in air freight volumes for November 2015 - Jan 13, 2016

Montréal, 13 January 2016 – On a year-to-date basis up to November, global passenger traffic has risen by 6.2% as compared to the previous year at the world’s major airports. For the sole month of November, passenger traffic increased by 6.3% year over year. 

ACI World launches first edition of the ACI Apron Safety Handbook - Dec 21, 2015

Montreal, 21 December 2015 –Airports Council International (ACI) World’s Safety and Technical Standing Committee has announced the launch of the First Edition of the ACI Apron Safety Handbook. This indispensable resource brings together best practices in managing apron safety by drawing on the current expertise of airport operators around the world, and provides a comprehensive set of guidelines to enhance safety, improve operations and prevent or reduce accidents, incidents and occurrences on the apron.

Passenger traffic grows by 6% in October 2015; air freight volumes up marginally by 0.3% - Dec 11, 2015

Montréal, 11 December 2015 – Passenger demand continued its positive trend in October 2015 with the world’s airports reporting a 6% increase compared to October 2014. International passenger traffic showed stronger growth at 6.3%, while domestic passenger traffic grew by 5.8%. The first ten months of 2015 showed world passenger traffic increasing by 6.1%, with similar growth rates for international and domestic passenger traffic—6.2% and 6.4% respectively. This growth has been stimulated by lower fares, particularly for leisure travel.

ACI and Open Doors Organization to offer new workshops for US airports on passengers with reduced mobility - Dec 10, 2015

Montreal, 10 December 2015 – In order to enhance services and facilities for passengers with disabilities, Airports Council International (ACI) and Open Doors Organization (ODO) will offer a new series of workshops in the US for aviation managers and access coordinators. The first introductory-level workshop, Passengers with Reduced Mobility, is scheduled for 16–18 May 2016 in San Francisco. A second intermediate-level course, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of airport access coordinators, will launch in the third quarter of 2016. Additional workshops are to come in 2017.

UNFCCC and ACI join forces to promote carbon neutral and sustainable airports - Dec 08, 2015

Paris, France:As the global climate negotiations continue, the airport industry trade association Airports Council International (ACI) and the carbon standard Airport Carbon Accreditation signed a partnership with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), at a special side event at COP21 yesterday.

Aviation stakeholders meet in India to ensure that airports are well positioned for sustainable growth - Dec 03, 2015

Delhi, 3 December 2015 – Airports Council International’s (ACI) Investing in Airports – Economic Oversight and Regulation Conference in Delhi, India, organized in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), kicked off on Wednesday, 2 December with pre-conference seminars covering the fundamentals of economic oversight and regulation, ICAO’s policies on charges for airports and air navigation service providers, and public-private partnerships (PPPs). Delegates this morning heard Dr. Fang Liu, Secretary General of ICAO, and Angela Gittens, Director General of ACI World, speak at the conference opening on the importance of the event for airports in India and worldwide; the forecast growth in passenger numbers over the next 15 years; and the resultant need for a transparent and light-touch regulatory regime that encourages private investment in airports.

ICAO and UNFCCC join forces to bring CDM coverage to aviation in advance of important 2015 Paris climate conference - Nov 27, 2015

Montreal, 27 November 2015– With only a few days remaining before the important 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP21), the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Fang Liu, announced the adoption today of the first aviation-related Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). 

Global travel and tourism leaders hopeful for positive outcome at COP21 talks - Nov 27, 2015
