Continued growth for July passenger traffic; air freight out of the woods - Sep 11, 2014

Montréal, 11 September 2014 – One of the busiest months of the year for global travel saw passenger traffic rise by 4.3% over the previous year. This continues to be on par with the average 12-month growth trend of 4.5%. International travel, in particular, is acting as the main catalyst for this strong growth since international passenger traffic rose by 4.8%. Domestic passenger markets moved up by 3.9% for the month.

8 September 2014 – Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) yesterday announced the launch of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme in North America at its 2014 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia. At the same time, ACI-NA also announced that Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has become the very first airport in North America to achieve accreditation. Airport Carbon Accreditation—pioneered by ACI EUROPE in 2009 and since implemented to great effect at airports in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa—independently assesses and recognizes airports’ efforts to measure, manage and reduce their CO2 emissions.

Building a bright future for India’s aviation sector - Aug 27, 2014

28 August 2014 – Airports Council International (ACI) World Director General Angela Gittens met earlier this week with senior Indian aviation officials in New Delhi to discuss the future of aviation in the country. With a population of over a billion people and a growing middle class now just beginning to discover air travel, India last year enjoyed traffic growth of 6.2% compared to the previous year. This growth is expected to continue, and the Indian airport sector needs to be prepared to handle increased passenger numbers and more cargo in the coming years.

Joint Statement on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Outbreak - Aug 18, 2014

18 August 2014 – The current Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak began in Guinea in December 2013. This outbreak now involves community transmission in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone and recently an ill traveller from Liberia infected a small number of people in Nigeria with whom he had direct contact. On 8 August 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) in accordance with the International Health Regulations (2005).

June passenger traffic on par with growth trend - Aug 11, 2014

Montréal, 11 August 2014 – Global passenger traffic continued along the growth path as the number of passengers grew by 4.5% for the month of June. This is on par with the average 12 month growth trend of 4.7%. International travel continued to maintain momentum by contributing to the upward surge in passenger traffic with an increase of 5% in June. Domestic passenger markets moved up by 4.2% for the month.
