Montréal, Québec, Canada, 18 February 2013 – A new standard that will require improved noise performance from newly certified aircraft types was agreed at the Ninth Meeting of ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) on 7 February.

Montréal, Québec, Canada, 07 February 2013 – Preliminary results point to an overall increase of +3.9% in global passenger traffic in 2012 as compared to the previous year. While the world’s top international airports in North America and Europe posted more modest gains in passenger traffic, air transport markets in emerging economies continue to show buoyant activity. Double digit growth rates in passenger traffic were observed in Istanbul (IST; +20.2%), Jakarta (CGK; +14.4%), Dubai (DXB; +13.2%) and Bangkok (BKK; +10.6%) in 2012. Moderate growth of +2.5% was observed in December of 2012 as domestic passenger markets recoiled in Europe, Latin America, Africa and North America. Conversely, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific persistently post strong gains in international passenger traffic with growth of +12.3% and +9.0% respectively for the month of December.

Montréal, Québec, Canada, 10 January 2013 – Yesterday, Airports Council International (ACI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) establishing the global Young Aviation Professionals Programme. The programme will attract well-qualified young aviation professionals who have an interest in international civil aviation policy development and will bring those professionals to Montreal to the three organizations.

Montréal, Québec, Canada, 10 January 2013 – Global passenger traffic continued along the growth path for the month of November increasing by +3.2% from the previous year. A major contributor to the on-going growth was the international passenger market with gains of +6% whereas domestic traffic experienced only a +1.1% gain. With the perpetual concerns regarding the Eurozone, domestic traffic has been stifled with a contraction of -5.5% in Europe. Moreover, although growth prospects are relatively limited in North America since the region is already working at capacity, the fiscal cliff is not alleviating the standstill with respect to year over year growth. Conversely, international passenger markets in Asia-Pacific showed robust growth at +11.5%. More specifically, the growth velocity stems from airports based in South-East Asia. Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Singapore (SIN) each reported double digit gains of +13.1% and +12.2% respectively for the month of November. Although Bangkok experienced growth of +20.6%, it should be noted that traffic was significantly curtailed in November 2011 due to the destructive floods affecting the region.

Montréal, 11 December 2012 – Global passenger traffic showed only modest gains for the month of October. While emerging markets in Asia-Pacific, Latin America-Caribbean and the Middle East all posted gains of over +5%, the economic slowdown in North American and European markets resulted in almost no change in year-over-year passenger traffic. Adding to this fact, many major North American airports along the eastern seaboard were temporarily crippled by Hurricane Sandy. Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Newark (EWR) all faced declines of -3.2, -3.8 and -8.3% respectively, which was attributable mainly to the hurricane. On the other hand, a few key international airports in emerging markets continue to have buoyant traffic increases helping to maintain a global growth trend in positive territory. Singapore (SIN), Istanbul (IST) and Jakarta (CGK) continue to experience double-digit growth rates.

Montréal, 06 November 2012 – As a result of contractions in the domestic passenger markets of Europe and North America, global passenger traffic slowed to almost +3% for the month of September. With weak economic performance and continued uncertainty threatening the two regions, Europe and North America saw declines of -3.8% and -1% respectively in domestic passenger traffic. Major airports in the two regions such as Madrid (MAD), Dallas (DFW) and Las Vegas (LAS) saw declines of -9.5%, -3.9% and -3% respectively. On the other hand, major airports in emerging markets continue to counterbalance the slowdown from other regions with sustained demand for air transport. Istanbul (IST), Dubai (DXB), Jakarta (CGK) and Beijing (PEK) posted growth of +19.7%, +12.8%, +6.5% and +4.1% respectively.
