ACI World receives Centennial Air Transport Award from Hermes Air Transport Club - Dec 08, 2014

8 December 2014 (Geneva/Montreal) – Airports Council International (ACI) World has been presented the Centennial Air Transport Award from Hermes Air Transport Club for its significant contribution to the aviation industry over the last 23 years. ACI World Director General Angela Gittens accepted the award on behalf of the organization at a ceremony held on the evening of Saturday, 6 December at ICAO Headquarters in Montreal.

“ACI has long been dedicated to shining a spotlight on airports’ contribution to the aviation industry on the worldwide stage,” Gittens said. “Aviation’s global economic impact is estimated at US$2.4 trillion, and airports have proven themselves to be drivers of local economies and engines for the growth of towns, cities, regions and even continents.

“This significant contribution would not be possible without a clear focus on safety, security, environmental and economic sustainability and customer service,” Gittens continued. “As such, ACI offers services to members that run the gamut— the Airport Excellence (APEX) in Safety peer review programme; the publication of best-practice documents across all disciplines of airport operation and management; the Global Training programme; the production of industry data and analyses; the benchmarking programmes that support achievement of performance excellence, particularly ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) and Airport Carbon Accreditation programme; and the organisation of conferences and exhibitions, by the industry, for the industry.

“I proudly accept this award on behalf of ACI,” Gittens concluded. “The World Office here in Montreal and our Regional Offices across the globe will continue to promote the interests of airports worldwide as we work to grow the aviation industry safely and sustainably.”

Hermes Air Transport Club also presented awards to the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation and the International Air Transport Association in addition to recognizing six airlines, five commercial airports and one aircraft manufacturer.
